General info
- Any company in the US can join this program, no matter in which state it is located
- Study Program: International Engineering & Management, aligned with the German Qualification Framework
- Two 10-week blocks per year at college, either in Charleston, SC or in Germany
- 32 weeks per year at company, conducted within the training company in the USA, with the option to supplement in Germany
- The program includes at least six months in Germany; students completing their practical phase in Germany may stay for up to a year
- Duration: 3 years
- Degree: Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) and Certificates from the College of Charleston
- Program launch: October 2025
Tuition fee
Three cost categories must be taken into account and agreed upon in advance. Each company can define its own framework:
- Costs for coursework: depending on funding by the federal state and company agreement with students.
Costs range from approximately $8,000 to $22,000 per year. - Costs for compensation: since students work up to 30 weeks per year, compensation is recommended but not required. In Germany, students get around $18,000 per year.
- Costs for travel, housing: it’s the company’s decision whether support is available.
Admission requirements
To participate in the program, you’ll need to meet specific academic criteria to ensure you’re ready for both the academic and practical challenges:
- High school diploma combined with an associate degree.
- High school diploma and have passed Advanced Placement (AP*) exams.
- High school diploma and have successfully completed 2 years of study at an accredited college or university.
- Graduation from a German school (Abitur).

* The „Student Score Report“ shows four Advanced Placement exams with at least a grade of 3 in the following subjects:
a) Mathematics (AP Calculus AB or BC),b) 1 science subject (AP Biology or AP Chemistry or AP Physics C (AP Physics C: Mechanics and AP Physics C: Electricity
and Magnetism)),
c) 1 language (AP French or AP Spanish or AP Latin or AP German or AP English Literature or AP English Languageand Composition),
d) 1 additional subject corresponding to the upper secondary school (e.g. AP European/World/United States History,AP Computer Science A or AP Macroeconomics (0.5 credits/units) and AP Microeconomics (0.5 credits/units)).
These exams must be taken separately with the College Board while attending school

Successful completion of the selection process
After your university application, you will receive access to the online test by e-mail. Complete the online assessment that covers your academic knowledge, math skills personality, and motivation. Passing the online test is a prerequisite for admission to the study program. After passing the online test, you can apply to the companies.

Contract & Enrollment
Once selected and approved, you’ll sign a contract outlining the terms and con conditions of the study program. You will then be enrolled at NORDAKADEMIE.

Theory/practice transfer paper
In the German American Co-op Bachelor's program at NORDAKADEMIE, you also acquire credits for the practical phases via theory-practice transfer paper.
Here you can show that you can link the competencies acquired in the company with the contents taught in the theory phases, evaluate them on the basis of these and place them in an overall context within the course of study.

Hands-on Experience in the Company
- During your time at the company, you will rotate through various technical and commercial departments such as sales, production, or the laboratory. This gives you in-depth product knowledge and allows you to build a strong professional network.
- You will take on responsibility for both small and large projects, managing them independently — an ideal preparation for your future career.
- Each practical phase concludes with a theory-practice transfer paper, where you connect your academic knowledge with hands-on experience in the company.
